Product Feature: Interior Lighting
The very first cars were of an open air design. They did not have a roof and as such, needed no lights on the inside for the convenience of the driver. In fact, the very earliest of cars had no lights at all! In those days it was expected a person would never need to operate a vehicle at night. That idea was phased out when those small handful of automakers began installing oil lamps on the outside of the car to act as the very first headlights. Both Cadillac and Rolls-Royce were among the first to install electric lights on the outside of their vehicles. The next hurdle to overcome was how to see your gauges as you drove and naturally the invention of lit gauges would follow.
However, you know from experience that dash lights are hardly anything to see by! We've all tried to grope around the dark interior of our cars, arm outstretched as we drive, slapping at a nearby seat for something we need. The first dome lights would appear in cars in the late 1940's and soon, lights would move to many areas of the modern car. Lit footwells, map lights, and reading lights in the C pillars became commonplace in luxury cars and remain so to this day.
If you find yourself in need of a new dome light, side dome light, or an illuminated sun visor, feel free to check out our store. As winter approaches, and days grow shorter, make sure you're prepared!
