Cars In The Yard: 1981 380SEC C126

This week, let's end the year by talking about a model that is sometimes overlooked, respected so much here at our dismantling facility in Merlin, Oregon. Until the Lexus LS400 launched in the 90s, there was nothing comparable to the Mercedes-Benz C126 chassis lineup. The W126 coupe (C126) market is vastly different from the W126 sedans and as a result they aren't nearly as preserved as their 4-door siblings. Many of the panels and components on this example are straight, and ready to give your C126 project a proper jumpstart to life.

This 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SEC was powered by the M116 (116.960) 3.8L V8 motor which was introduced in 1979 and phased out about 1985 after its timing chain update in 1983. Variations of this motor evolved to become extremely reliable and can also be found in models including the W126 S-class, C107 SLC-class, and R107 SL-class.
