W114 & W115 Chassis
Parts for the W114 & W115 Chassis Mercedes-Benz, Manufactured from 1968-1976. These vehicles featured a newly engineered chassis with semi-trailing rear control arms and a ball-joint front end, which would be used in all Mercedes passenger cars for the next two decades. The look of the W114 and W115 is very similar to the S-Class W108 chassis launched a few years earlier. Both W114 sedan models--featuring six-cylinder engines--and W115 sedan models--featuring four-cylinder engines--were released in 1968, with W114 coupe models released a year later. 1969 was also the year that the Bosch D-jetronic fully electronic fuel injection system was released with the 250CE W114, the first model of many to feature this sysem. In addition to coupe and standard sedan models, there was a very limited production of long-wheelbase sedan models. As usual, North American models were more limited. The W114 and W115 models had the largest production numbers of any models up that point, though these were greatly eclipsed by the extremely popular W123 which succeeded them. In 1973 both chassis received a face-lift, with changes to the grille, bumpers, fenders, and interior. North American models after the facelift had significantly larger bumpers due to new DOT requirements. The W115 was the first chassis to feature the famed OM617 5-cylinder diesel engine, released in 1974 through 1976.
