Parts for the Pontons: W105, W120, W121, W128, W180 Mercedes-Benz, Manufactured from 1954-1962. These vehicles are known as 'Pontons', the German word for 'Pontoon', a common rounded-box postwar design. The Ponton series was known for a number of automotive safety innovations that Mercedes-Benz would continue to push for several decades.
The W120 Mercedes 180 & 180D four-cylinder models were the first of the pontons, released in 1953. In 1954, the W180 220a six-cylinder S-Class was released with a stretched body, later to become the 220S. In 1956 the W105 was released, as were coupe and convertible models of the 220S. Also in 1956 came the W121, very similar to the W120 with 1.9L engines and a few other small differences. In 1958, sought-after fuel-injected W128 220SE models came out similar to the W180 220S.
