This week, we are spotlighting this W124 1987 300TD wagon here at our dismantling facility in Merlin, Oregon. This particular example has already begun the disassembling process however has many great OEM parts that are no longer available from Mercedes-Benz. Although not as popularized as its predecessor the W123, the W124 is a chassis that continues to capture a unique segment of the classic Mercedes-Benz market as it ages.
The term "E-class" represented any mid-sized model offering by Mercedes-Benz during a production period, and was not badged as such until the W124 (2nd generation). Previous midsized chassis included the W120, W110, W114/115, and well-known W123. There were two generations of styling throughout the W124 period, often referred to as "pre-facelift" and "post-facelift" mainly separated by model year 1993. Fun Fact: In some countries, the final year of the W124 (1995) had a "Masterpiece" badge. There were 4 unique pieces of accessories fitted to "Masterpiece" which were not available to any other W124 around the world – gear knob engraved with the word Masterpiece, stainless door sills engraved with Mercedes Benz, Masterpiece label on the right side of the boot and the brand new 6-hole light-alloy wheels
