This week we are featuring the W115 300D
The W115 was the entry level version of the Mercedes W114 & W115 series of cars. These chassis were offered from the factory in front-engine, rear-drive, five-passenger sedans and coupés introduced in 1968. Most variants of the W115 were fitted with inline 4 engines, while the 300D (also known as the 240D 3.0) was fitted with an inline 5. With the second series W115 models beginning in 1974, the now-famous OM617 diesel engine was introduced to the world. And the world took to it! The OM616 (also introduced in 1974) and the OM617 together are some of the most beloved and bulletproof diesels Mercedes has produced. Other notable models in the W115 line up included 220, 220D, 230.4, and 240D. Built until 1976, the W115 was replaced by the famous Mercedes-Benz E W123.
Fun Fact: 1969 saw the introduction of the Bosch D-jetronic fully electronic fuel injection system into the 250CE. This was the first ever production Mercedes-Benz to use this system.
